Septic Inspections

Troy Lake Septic Inspections The township of Rideau Lakes has been engaged in inspecting septic systems throughout the Township. These discussions have come up as a result of lake water quality concerns including the presence of algae blooms. In prior years the septic inspections have been in areas of the Township bordering the larger lakes and in the portion of the Township that is in the Rideau Valley Conservation Area. This year the inspections will be done in the Cataraqui Conservation Area portion of the Township specifically Delta, Beverly and Troy Lake.

Gypsy Moth and the summer of 2021

The Gypsy Moth is an invasive species. Unfortunately, they have invaded the Rideau Lakes Area causing considerable damage to both deciduous and coniferous trees and there is the likelihood of creating far more damage this coming spring and summer. These moths were accidentally introduced into Massachusetts in 1869 by a French naturalist trying to cross the European gypsy moth with North American silkworms. Fact Sheet In 2020 our lake was right on the edge of the infestations.
